On Sunday evening a group of us sat down at The Royal Oak and started a radio club.
That sentence had been floating about for a while, mostly said on the air and then not acted on. It is not floating any more.
Thank you to everyone who came. Some have held a licence for decades, some passed the exam this year, and some have never keyed a microphone and turned up to find out what the fuss is about. That mix was the best thing about the evening, and it is the club we want to build.
We talked about what the club should be, where it might meet, and what to do first. Plenty of good ideas, no shortage of opinions, and — as anyone who has started anything with a group of volunteers will recognise — rather more questions raised than settled.
What happens next
The practical business is still being worked through: a regular meeting night, a home to meet in, the subscription, and who does what. It is being sorted between us over the next few weeks rather than rushed on the first evening. Everything that gets decided will be posted here and put in the calendar, so the way to keep up is simply to check this page.
In the meantime nothing is on hold. The net runs as usual, and anyone who wants to come along to the next meeting is welcome — including, and especially, people who missed this one.
If you have never touched a radio, that still holds. Bring nothing. Ask anything
